Safaricom Prepares To Enter Into the TV Business

There has been talk of Kenya's biggest telecom network, Safaricom breaking into the TV market by launching their own station.

The move by Safaricom to venture into TV seems to be proceeding according to plan, after it applied for a license to operate a commercial free-to-air television station.

Safaricom has, however, refused to reveal any information about their move to set up a station.

According to Business Daily, the network said it would wait for the approval of the licenses before speaking on it.

Communications Authority of Kenya director-general Francis Wangusi has reportedly given anyone with objections to Safaricom being awarded the licence 30 days to present his or her views to the regulator.

The recent migration from analogue to digital migration will give many investors an opportunity to break int the industry.

The migration allows interested investors to set up TV stations without having to put up expensive infrastructure such as transmitters.
