Safaricom Sues Blogger For Defamation

Cyprian Nyakundi- the blogger who hit headlines in 2012 when he was suspended by Meru University for his posts on social media is back in the spotlight.

Telecommunication service provider Safaricom has sued Nyakundi for defamation.

This follows articles by the blogger that Safaricom termed ‘unsubstantial and unsupported’.

The case was filed by Ogeto, Otachi and Company Advocates, representing Safaricom.

The blogger allegedly began a 15 part expose series on the operations of Safaricom which the company said portrayed them as  ‘a thief and a fraud, obtaining money and airtime from its subscribers through non-existent subscriptions’.

In the suit, Safaricom further alleged that some of the posts were on cases that were already in court.

The blogger has not yet given an official response to the suit.

He has however re-tweeted tweets posted in his support.

He has been given 15 days to appear in court.
