Saumu Sonko: Daddy Was Forced into Politics

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko's daughter Saumu Sonko on Thursday revealed that his father did not intend to be a politician but was forced.

Speaking in a television interview, the student leader at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Karen Campus, said that his father bowed to pressure from the public to join politics.

“He was doing business and people were forcing him coz it was a by-election,” Saumu narrated on Ebru TV.

According to Ms Sonko, her father Mike Sonko was pinned to politics by the people he supported financially when he was still a businessman in Buruburu area, Nairobi.

The Senator's daughter added that Sonko, who is currently eying the Nairobi’s gubernatorial seat, received the backing of his colleagues when he gave a shot at Makadara Parliamentary seat in 2010, which he won.

“For me, I was like go for it because this is what I have always wanted myself,” Saumu said.

The eldest daughter in the Sonko family divulged on her undying interest in politics, saying that her immediate project, 'Fashion meets charity', is focused on helping slum residents pursue their dreams.

“I want to take people from the slums to accomplish their goals, including those who have not gone to school but have something that drives them,” she said.
