School Boarding Quarters Go up in Flames

Three dormitories in Nyamira Boys High School, in Nyamira County, burnt down on Tuesday night.

Neighboring residents, teachers and students worked tirelessly to quench the fire but their efforts bore no fruits as the inferno completely razed down the students quarters.

Millions of shillings' worth of property was destroyed in the incident as nothing was salvaged, The Nation reports.

Residents blame the extent of the damage on the fact that the county lacks fire engines and other equipment to combat such disasters.

Luckily, there were no casualties as the students were in class when the fire started.

More than 20 students were, however, left out in the cold with neither bedding nor a place to sleep.

Nyamira South DEO Titus Mbata and the Nyamira County executive purchased mattresses and blankets for the affected students, as a temporary solution.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
