See the 5 Billionaires Fighting For Nyeri Gubernatorial Seat

The upcoming August 8 election is set to be a battle of titans not only in the presidential election but also in the race for gubernatorial and Parliamentary seats. 

In Nyeri for instance, a do-or-die contest is shaping up as area billionaires gun up to go head to head for the County's top job.  

Here are 5 political heavyweights fighting for the Nyeri Governor's seat:

1. Ephraim Maina

Mr Maina was once listed as one of the wealthiest men in Kenya.

He is the founder and owner of Kirinyaga Construction, a Civil Engineering Construction Company offering services in Planning, Designing Constructing and Maintaining Civil Engineering and Building Projects.

He has won major tenders from the government and has been tipped to be the next Nyeri Governor.

2. Nderitu Gachagua

Mr Gachagua, who is the current Governor for Nyeri County and former Mathira constituency MP, will be seeking re-election on a Jubilee ticket.

The Nyeri Governor has ventured into various businesses. 

Mr Gachagua pocketed Sh1 Billion in 2016 as compensation after the government acquired his parcel of land for the construction of Nairobi’s southern bypass.

3. Wahome Gakuru

Mr Gakuru is a businessman and a former director of the Vision 2030. 

He Lost to incumbent Gachagua in 2013 and currently heads Dhamana Africa Ltd.

4. Machira Gichohi

He was the Kenya Dairy Board Managing Director for 12 years before he resigned.

Mr Gichohi, a wealthy businessman, declared that he will vie for the Nyeri Governor's seat in 2016.

5. Daniel Wamahiu

Mr Wamahiu has been touted as a potential candidate in the Nyeri gubernatorial race.

He is currently the National Oil Chairman.
