Senator Hassan Omar Alleges Sh1.2 Billion Stolen from Mombasa County

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has found himself in political trouble after his county’s senator Hassan Omar accused him of presiding over a Sh1.2 Billion scandal.

Omar claimed that the county government of Mombasa irregularly awarded a Multi-billion tender to a company that was supposed to carry out garbage collection.

The Senator claimed that the process of award was illegal as it was done through single-sourcing, and that the directors of the said company were allegedly connected to Governor Joho.

Omar stated that the county pays an annual Sh300 million fee but claimed that no service had been delivered for the last four years, noting that Mombasa remained filthy.

The lawmaker called on the relevant agencies to move with speed and investigate the claims he had made and ensure that those responsible for the mess are held accountable as per the law.

The Senator made the claims during a press conference held on Monday morning in Mombasa.

The Wiper Party Secretary General further called on Kenyans to support the war on corruption regardless of the ethnic or political affiliations of those involved.

He added that although he was in the same coalition with Joho, he would continue to call for accountability especially in cases of possible corruption at the county.

Omar has declared his intention to face the incumbent in the 2017 Mombasa gubernatorial race.
