Senator Kiraitu Murungi's Jubilee Team Booed in Meru County

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi and his Jubilee campaign team were on Monday heckled and booed in the home village of Women Representative Florence Kajuju in Tigania West.

The Senator had led his team dubbed Kikali -  that comprises of him, Kajuju and Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi - to campaign for Jubilee before residents began heckling them and disrupted the whole event.

Trouble began when one Titus Ntuchiu, who running as the Deputy Governor alongside Murungi, tried to address the crowd and urged them to re-elect Ms Kajuju in the upcoming General Election.

Ntuchiu tried to plead with the crowd to support the Kikali team and ensure that Jubilee wins majority seats in the 2017 Elections but the gathering could hear none of that as he was forced to cut his speech short.

It took the intervention of Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant, Kilemi Mwiria, who is President Uhuru Kenyatta's adviser on education matters, to calm down the gathering.

"If the Jubilee Party nominations will be marred by rigging, l will ditch the party and join another vehicle," Mwiria warned.

Members of the public claimed that Murungi, who spearheaded the formation of the Jubilee team in Meru, had not consulted them and that the whole process lacked transparency.

The Senator has already declared that he will vie for the Meru Governorship in the upcoming General Election and face incumbent Governor Peter Munya.

Tigania West is considered a key stronghold for Jubilee and voted overwhelmingly for Kenyatta in 2013 Elections.
