Senator's Bodyguard Shoots Armed Robber

Nominated Senator Agnes Zani’s bodyguard survived an attempted robbery by four armed men on Wednesday night in Huruma estate, Nairobi.

The bodyguard, who according to The Nation is a policeman, was attacked by men who intended to rob him of his possesions.

In the struggle, he shot one of the robbers in the neck forcing the other three attackers to flee.

The suspect was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he is recuperating.

He will be arraigned in court after being discharged from hospital.

The attempted robbery is the latest of criminal activities within Nairobi that have left residents worried over their security.

Two weeks ago, a police woman was attacked by a gang of four men in Kayole, in a suspected retaliation incident since she has been active in fighting crime.

The gang took advantage of the poor lighting and tried to mug her.

She survived the attack sustaining a gunshot wound on her arm.

Nairobi residents have complained that their estates are poorly lit, which gives criminals opportunities to attack their victims undetected.

The County Government has been setting up street lights in the City in a bid to curb insecurity.
