A former political heavyweight has sensationally requested to be given Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) NJoseph Nkaissery's job.
Sheikh Salim Balala, a seasoned politician from the coastal region, now wants to be the next Interior CS, despite his old age.
In an interview with one of the local dailies, Balala, who was known for his fiery and bold mode of politics, said he was campaigning for CORD leader Raila Odinga adding that he wanted to take over from Nkaissery if the opposition chief wins.
Sheikh Balala, who is said to be a relative of Tourism CS Najib Balala, stated that he wanted the job in order to conclusively deal with the rampant corruption in the country.
“I am always moving around campaigning with Governor Joho and Raila Odinga. When he wins, I will ask him to give me the Interior Ministry portfolio so that I can deal with corruption once and for all,” said Balala.
He hit out at the Jubilee administration alleging that most of the leaders in it are a product of a “rotten system” from the KANU regime.
Balala added that Kenyans should try out the Opposition claiming that it could provide a better option in terms of leading the country forward.
At the same time, he accused Najib of having been used by previous governments to undermine his political career, citing the case where he lost a parliamentary contest in 2002.
