Sonko Applies to be Released as Surety for MRC Leader Omar Mwamnuadzi

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has urgently moved to court seeking to be released as a surety for Mombasa Republican Congress (MRC) leader Omar Mwamnuadzi.

The Senator made the move after Mwamnuadzi jumped bond and refused to appear before the court for more than one year.

Sonko who stood a Sh1 Million surety for the MRC leader explained that he had cooperated with the court in attempts to locate the accused, therefore, he should not be compelled to pay the money.

“Considering the cooperation the surety has given to court, it would be unjust to demand Sh1 Million signed in good faith,” he stated through his lawyer Jared Magolo.

The same was reiterated by Mwamnuadzi's counsel who observed that the Senator had contributed towards trying to locate the suspect including searching for him in Tanzania.

He urged the court to deal fairly with Senator Sonko and direct that he should not pay the bond.

The Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant has in the past been severally summoned by the court to explain the whereabouts of the MRC leader who is accused of being in possession of an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition.

In September 2016, the court gave Sonko a two-month ultimatum to present the suspect for prosecution where the Senator assured that he would personally look for Mwamnuadzi.
