A journalist who works for the Standard Media Group was on Friday arraigned in Court after allegedly stealing Sh200,000 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
John Lawrence Opate, who writes for The Nairobian, was arrested on Thursday after CCTV cameras captured him stealing the cash from the bag of a female passenger at the airport.
The woman was travelling to Mombasa with her family when the incident occurred, the Nation reports.
After the arrest, Mr Opate was found with Sh61,000 in cash and Sh26,000 deposited in an M-Pesa account but the rest is yet to be recovered.
Confirming the incident, Kenya Police Airport Unit deputy commandant Rono Bunei, divulged that they had questioned an Airport employee who was at the counter on Wednesday.
Bunei added that investigations had shown that the airport attendant was not involved in the theft at all.
