Stern Warning Given to Traders as ERC Announces New Fuel Prices

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has announced the maximum retail pump prices for petroleum products, while warning traders against selling fuel at costs higher than the stipulated prices.

The new prices effective from August 15th to September 14th, include changes in the cost of Super Petrol, which went up by Ksh 4.06 per litre.

As such, it will trade at Ksh 102.56 in Nairobi, Ksh 99.32 in Mombasa and Ksh 116.46 in Mandera and its environs.

Diesel users will, however, experience a bit of relief as the price went down by Ksh 1.21 per liter to trade at Ksh 83.35 in Nairobi, Ksh 80.06 in Mombasa and Ksh 97.16 in Mandera.

Kerosene prices similarly went down, with a Ksh 4.76 difference.

It will, therefore, retail at Ksh 57.98 per liter in Nairobi, Ksh 55.25 in Mombasa and at Ksh 71.79 per litre in Mandera.

The new prices, according to the commission, have been set to cater for the enhanced Road Maintenance Levy (RML) announced in the 2015/2016 national budget.

ERC regulates fuel prices in the country to protect consumers from overpricing of petroleum products, while at the same time ensuring that costs incurred by fuel industry players are recovered.

The commission has warned that traders found selling fuel above the maximum prices will face the penalty of canceled licenses or hefty fines.
