Studio Mashinani Project Launched by Government was Our Idea - Sauti Sol

Kenya's Boys band Sauti Sol has accused the government of 'stealing' the Studio Mashinani project that was launched on Friday.

Hours after its launch, Sauti Sol's Bien Baraza claimed that the project was the musical group's idea and not of the government as is being publicised.

Mr Baraza took to Instagram to express his sentiments alleging that the idea was originally a proposal which he presented to the President in 2015.

The celebrated musician explained that he had been instructed to hand over the proposal to the then Chairperson of the Youth Fund, Bruce Odhiambo only for him to see it be passed as that of the government.

"The Proposal was sent to the relevant parties. Only to wake up today a year and some months later to see the project being launched countrywide. I am not in any way implying that the President has a hand in this because he deals with millions of things and this may just be one of those that he delegated. I feel so robbed. I plan to make everything public soon." Baraza divulged

The project was launched by Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru as an initiative of the Ministry of Information Communication Technology.

It is designed to provide youth in rural areas around the country an opportunity to explore their talents through; setting up studios where young people can record music professionally, hold interviews and provide entertainment as well as news tailored for the youth.

Friday's event launched the first of the stations at Koma-Rock area, in Nairobi and was also attended by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario, Joe Okudo (Principal Secretary, Arts and Culture) and Sammy Itemere (Principal Secretary, Broadcasting and Telecommunication).
