Tension in the National Super Alliance (NASA) After Unfruitful Coast Retreat

The three-day retreat by National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principals at the coast ended yesterday with unsuccessful talks to on who would be the flagbearer in the upcoming General Election.

The failure to announce the presidential lineup as anticipated has caused tension among the coalition supporters and leaders alike.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka spoke on behalf of his fellow co-principals and conveyed to the public that the meeting held at Vipingo Ridge did not yield a unanimous decision on the presidential candidate.

Kalonzo entreated the coalition's supporters to give the team more time to make a decision, noting that the candidate would be announced the week after the Easter holiday.

"Please be patient; these things need keen and sober consideration," Kalonzo urged.

The four principals; Kalonzo, Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress), Raila Odinga (Orange Democratic Movement) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) allegedly agreed on the date to allow for the affiliate parties to conduct their primaries.

Sources familiar with the proceedings told journalists that the leaders cautioned allies to stop leaking information from the meeting or speaking about their choice of candidate to avoid a fallout among supporters as this was breeding tension within the coalition.

"There was an agreement that leakage of information about who is the presidential candidate should stop. There are certain areas which have already started feeling uncomfortable. We want a united Nasa to beat Jubilee," the source conveyed.

A proposal that Mudavadi be made Chief Minister sparked protests especially in his backyard, the Western region.
