CORD co-principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday warned that there could be chaos after the 2017 elections if the polls are not free, transparent and credible.
Speaking at Capitol Hill, Odinga and Kalonzo claimed that there was a plan to rig next year's elections and that they would not accept rigged results.
"The retired commissioners must stop any activity or engagement in the name of IEBC forthwith and new commissioners must assume office on or before December 23 this month," Kalonzo stated.
The Opposition leaders questioned why the old commissioners were still in office and procuring tenders for 2017 Elections even after they agreed to leave office.
"The new law provides for seven commissioners. As far as we are concerned, there is no commission. Anything that the secretariat is doing, including procurement of electoral equipment, is illegal," Oginga said.
The former Prime Minister stated that the awarding of tenders should be stopped with immediate effect adding that it was a plan being used to rig the upcoming General Election.
“We will not accept anything short of a comprehensive audit of the register by a reputable firm procured competitively, and through a transparent process for verifying the accuracy of the register and to achieve a biometric voter registration. There must be only one single Register of Voters to be maintained in a public web portal for inspection by members of the public,” Odinga affirmed.
The Opposition has in the past claimed that there were plans to rig 2017 Election elections, allegations that the ruling coalition has consistently denied.
