These are the Kenyan Youth Obama Praised in Yali Summit

The impact of Kenyan youth continues to spread beyond borders, with the latest accolade being a move by US President Barack Obama to single out two youngsters from the country, praising their efforts in making positive change.

Obama was speaking on Monday at Young African Leaders Initiative Forum (YALI) in Washington DC.

Over 500 young leaders from 17 African countries were present at the forum.

Speaking about the transformational power of the youth that he discovered during his visit to Kenya, Obama cited Richard Ruto Todasia and Judith Owigar who have been involved in the launches and operations of poverty eradication civil societies.

Judith Owigar is  the co-founder and President of Akirachix, which is a network for women interested in technology, with special emphasis on those from lower social and economic backgrounds.

The network has a training program for young women in slums, a High school program that targets girls between the ages of 13-18 years, networking events and meet ups for young women in university and early career.

Richard Ruto Todasia on the other hand is the founder of "Yes Youth Can" – one of the most prominent NGOs in Kenya.

The organization, currently with over one million members works towards stopping incitement to political violence and giving opportunities to young people affected by conflict.

Obama encouraged the young African leaders to rise to the challenge of creating solutions to the problems the continent faces.
