Things Will Be Bad For Kenya if Elections are Rigged - Raila Warns

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday warned that things will be “bad for Kenya” if a single vote is stolen during the August 8 Election.

Speaking on Tuesday at Funika grounds in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, Odinga alleged that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was meddling with the ongoing voter listing exercise and challenged NIS director-general Philp Kameru to respond immediately.

“NIS is the one being used to steal votes. They used it in 2013. The KDF, police and civil servants are now enlisted in the same. But we want to warn them that this time round, things will be bad in Kenya if a single vote is stolen,” the former Prime Minister warned.

Odinga added,"NIS interference in the current voter registration involves taking BVR kits across our borders into Uganda and Ethiopia and assisting citizens of the two countries to register in a Kenyan election process. The agency is also assisting citizens of these neighbouring countries to acquire Kenyan identification documents then helping them cross into Kenya and register as voters."

The Opposition leader also claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent unveiling of police vehicles was meant to intimidate the “Opposition Voters”.

The former Premier had been accompanied by Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho, his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi and Mombasa Woman Rep Mishi Mboko, during the mass voter registration campaign.

Joho stated that they would unveil names of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers and police officers who have been campaigning for Jubilee.

“Let them be warned that we are taking their names and will reveal you. Don’t dare steal votes and if you do, we will deal with you ruthlessly. Things will be bad,” said Mr Joho.

Ms Mboko also echoed Odinga’s sentiments stating,” if the election will be rigged, chaos will erupt in the country.”
