Ugandans Being Registered as Kenyan Voters - Ugandan MP Claims

A Ugandan Member of Parliament (MP) has claimed that there was mass registration of Ugandans in the ongoing voter enlisting exercise by the IEBC.

Speaking during a question session with the Prime Minister, Samia Bugwe North MP Gideon Onyango claimed that Ugandans leaving near the Kenyan border were being ferried to registration centres by unidentified individuals.

Onyango sought to know whether the Ugandan government was aware of the practice which he says is being carried out in Busia County.

“Enrolment of Ugandans into the Kenyan voter register is massive. This is happening in Busia. My question to the prime minister, is our government aware?” he posed.

The question was however dismissed by deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah who stated that issue was a matter of foreign relations which the House could not deal with.

"Some of those matters touch on foreign relations. We cannot competently raise them in the form you are raising them," stated Oulanyah.

This comes a few weeks after Ugandan police alleged that they had found Teso South MP Mary Emaase recruiting voters in Amagoro village in Uganda.

During the incident, the police said Emaase managed to escape back to Kenya but they were able to arrest and disarm her bodyguard. The Teso South MP later denied the claims.
