Uhuru Attacks FKF After Kenya's Disqualification

President Uhuru Kenyatta has bashed the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) for fielding older players leading to the disqualification of the national Under-20 team.

Speaking on Friday after signing the Anti-Doping Bill into law, Kenyatta strongly faulted the federation saying the cheating was unacceptable.

“Let us not sugar coat it, it is cheating. It is breaking the rules. And if the federation doesn’t know the rules, then that is carelessness. It is regrettable that the actions of the federation led to the disqualification of our team from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” he emphatically stated.

The Confederation of African Football early in the week banned Kenya from participating in the U20 African Cup of Nations qualifiers after a complain raised by Sudan.

CAF imposed the ban after Kenya fielded five overage players including Eugene Moses Mukangula, Nicholas Kipkurui, Erick Ouma Otieno, Theodore Kibet and Boniface Muchiri.

Also in his address, President Kenyatta warned all sports men and women against boosting their performances through doping, assuring that those who shall contravene the law will be punished.

“But let it also be clear that those who show contempt for the law will be punished. That applies not just to individual athletes and players but to teams too," Kenyatta remarked.

Kenya beat the deadline of May 2 issued by the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) to come up with anti-doping laws owing to the rampant cases of athletes using banned susbstances to boost performance.
