Uhuru to Attend Uzalendo Concert at Uhuru Gardens After Jamhuri Day Celebrations

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Monday attend the Uzalendo Concert alongside Togolese President Fare Essozimna Gnassingbe after leading the country in marking the 53rd Jamhuri day celebrations at Nyayo stadium in Nairobi.

The holiday is meant to officially mark the date Kenya got independence from Britain on December 12, 1963.

President Essozimna will be the special guest at this year’s Jamhuri day after the invite by the Head of State.

Meanwhile, Kenyatta and the Togolese President have been invited as the chief guests at the Uzalendo concert and Festival at Uhuru Gardens.

Renowned artists will lead the performance while members of the public have been invited to attend the event where entrance will be free.

During the main Jamhuri celebrations to be held at Nyayo Stadium, President Kenyatta is expected to speak on a number of pertinent issues that currently face the country.

Among the issues will be the Naivasha tragedy that left at least 39 people dead, as well as the health workers' strike that has paralysed operations in public hospitals across the country.
