Uhuru Commissions Development Projects in Kirinyaga County

President Uhuru Kenyatta spent the better part of Tuesday in Kirinyaga County where he commissioned various development projects at the end of his two-day tour of Central Kenya.

Accompanied by his Deputy William Ruto, the President toured various areas in the County and despite the tour being dominated by political talks, several projects were launched.

Addressing a gathering in Kerugoya, President Kenyatta announced that the Government had waived a Sh2.4 Billion debt owed by coffee farmers calling on residents to make good use of the debt waiver and boost production.

Kenyatta, who was accompanied by Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, also flagged of tarmacking of Kutus - Kibugu road in Karua's backyard at a cost of over Sh1.3 Billion.

He further pointed out that the Government had earmarked to tarmack 173 kilometres of road within the region to open up the county for development.

“We don’t want our farmers to continue making losses because of bad roads. If Kenyans have electricity, good roads and better healthcare then they will be able to handle other issues,” he stated.

Kenyatta also commissioned medical equipment installed at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital assuring that the Government had invested Sh800 Million in the provision of the special equipment in the County.

At the same time, DP Ruto disclosed that Sh250 Million had been set aside for electricity connection in the region during this financial year.

The Head of State affirmed that his administration would not allow interference by the Opposition to derail the projects through destructive politics.
