Uhuru Has No Favourite in the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial Seat - Waiguru Says

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru on Tuesday divulged that President Uhuru Kenyatta had no favourite candidate in the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial race.

Waiguru, who has already declared that she will vie for the Governor's seat on a Jubilee ticket, will face Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi and Kirinyaga Central Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Gitari.

The former CS assured other candidates eyeing the Jubilee ticket for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race that the Jubilee nominations would be free and fair.

Speaking during the election of the party’s interim officials, Waiguru stated that Kenyatta and his deputy would not favour any candidate but will let people on the ground elect their preferred candidates.

According to political pundits, the battle for the Kirinyaga Governor's seat will be a two-horse race between Waiguru and Karua.

The former Gichugu MP announced that she would contest for the seat on a Narc-Kenya party ticket and also support Kenyatta's re-election bid.

However, Karua has refused to fold her party and join the Jubilee despite the President's plea during his recent tour in Kirinyaga.

On Thursday, six Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Kirinyaga led by majority leader Kinyua Wangui, warned that they would not support Karua until she agreed to join Jubilee.

''Kirinyaga county is a JP zone, let no one tell you they are supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta yet they are not ready to join the President's vehicle,'' Kinyua affirmed.
