Uhuru Links Kidero to Kanjo Harassment in Nairobi

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday sharply criticised Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero during his mass voter registration drive in the County.

Mr Kenyatta pleaded with Nairobians to vote out Kidero stating that he had mismanaged the capital during his tenure as the Governor.

Speaking at Wakulima Market, the Head of State urged the hawkers to make sure that they register in Nairobi and vote in order to protect their businesses.

"You know what sufferings the Nairobi County Government has caused you for the last four years. If you want a government that will benefit you then you have to register as a voter.

"The problem is that a majority of you go back in the village to vote. List and vote here in Nairobi. How will voting in the village help your business in Nairobi? Vote in Nairobi because here is where you live.We want you to give us a governor under Jubilee to lead this county. Not a governor to destroy business structures, frustrating hawkers while looking for money," the President said.

Deputy President William Ruto, who had accompanied the President, claimed that Governor Kidero's Government had frustrated Jubilee's development efforts including the recent deal to supply the county with water.

"We want to change the city but we have obstacles because you gave ODM the Nairobi seat. When we want to bring water they threaten us with street protest. We want to tell them that Ndakaini water will come to Nairobi because that is our plan for Nairobi," Ruto maintained.

Ruto insisted that it was imperative for Nairobi to be ruled by a Jubilee Governor in order to facilitate smooth coordination with the National Government.

"Nairobi County Government must be Jubilee come 2017. Or do you want Nairobi government to be run by ODM? You must register as a voter so that we can develop Nairobi," the DP stated.
