Uhuru Makes Fun of Parliament After Being Abused

President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to an incident in which Mbita Member of Parliament (MP) Millie Odhiambo hurled insults at him.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) while ushering in the festive season, Kenyatta stated that the National Assembly was a house of democracy where people had the freedom to insult him.

While outrightly addressing the drama caused by CORD MPs in the chamber, the President sarcastically stated that it was within the freedom of lawmakers who intended to abuse him to do so.

“To the left is the National Assembly representing our democracy and ability of some idiots there to continue insulting me but that's their freedom,” he stated amid laughter from the gathering.

The President is said to have been following the chaotic situation that transpired at Parliament buildings where Ms Odhiambo went on an angry rant insulting his personal character.

The Opposition lawmakers were protesting a proposed amendment to the electoral laws that gives IEBC powers to revert to a manual system if technology employed during the 2017 election fails.

The legislators were also opposed to another change seeking to increase the number of voters per polling station from 500 to 700.

The confrontations which spanned throughout the day degenerated into ugly scenes in the evening after a section of the lawmakers reportedly attempted to grab the Mace forcing the proceedings to a halt.

Following the altercations, Kenyatta is said to have summoned Jubilee legislators to a meeting at State House to discuss new ways of passing the controversial proposal.
