Uhuru Orders Private Security Firms Underpaying Employees to Be Shut Down

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday ordered the Ministry of Labour to shut down all private security companies that flout the law on minimum wages.

Speaking at State House, Kenyatta stated that the Government had issued a standard package that private security firms should pay their employees, which the organisations were not adhering to.

“With immediate effect, all those companies that do not meet minimum wage requirements should be shut down,” Kenyatta said.

The Head of State also issued a stern warning to security companies that confiscate the Identity Cards (IDs) and original certificates of employees, noting that it would no longer be tolerated.

“We should not abuse the rights of people who are supposed to protect the rights of citizens,” the President affirmed.

Kenyatta hosted 4000 security officers at State House where he encouraged them to cooperate with Government in a bid to curb insecurity.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, who was present at the meeting, announced that a training manual for private security officers will soon be unveiled.
