Uhuru Sacks Former NIS boss Michael Gichangi Appoints Amos Ntimama

President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed former National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss Michael Gichangi from the Private Security Regulatory Authority.

In a Gazette notice, Mr Kenyatta replaced Gichangi with the late William ole Ntimama's son Amos Ntimama.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (a) of the Private Security Regulation Act I Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-chief of the Defence Forces appoint Amos Ntimama to be the Chairperson of the Private Security Regulatory Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from the 25th November 2016 and revoke the appointment of Maj, (Gen) Rtd Michael Gichangi,” the notice read in part.

Gichangi, who served as President Mwai Kibaki's most trusted security advisor, previously resigned unceremoniously as the NIS boss over what was termed as discord in the Jubilee administration.

A 2014 report by the Standard highlighted that: "President's aides believe Gichangi and some senior bosses in NIS and a few other high-ranking public servants under former President Kibaki, were part of a team that conspired to ensure Kenyatta and Ruto were tied up in cases at the ICC to prevent them from vying in the last General Election."

Other reports indicated that Gichangi played a crucial role in the submission of the Waki Report to the International Criminal Court (ICC) which ended up implicating Kenyatta and William Ruto in the 2007/2008 Post-Election violence cases - therefore, he (Gichangi) had no option but to step down when Kenyatta came to power.
