Leaders from Tharaka Nithi County have faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to skip the region during his one week tour in Mount Kenya region.
Speaking on Thursday in Tharaka, Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Muthomi Njuki stated that Kenyatta had been misled by his advisers not to visit the County, adding that he might suffer the consequences during the August 8 election.
“We want Uhuru to reschedule his itinerary to include our county in his visit. If we cannot benefit now then he should not come to seek votes in the County,” the MP warned.
The legislator added, “We were split from Meru in 1982 but it seems that only a few people know this. We are isolated in some matters at the expense of our big brother Meru County.”
Tharaka Nithi voted overwhelmingly for Uhuru in 2013 and is considered one of the key strongholds for Jubilee.
Despite voting for him, Kenyatta has only visited the County one since he ascended to power.
On Thursday, when the Head of State kicked off his mass registration campaign in the Mount Kenya region, the County was not part of his schedule.
The President has already toured Muranga, Kiambu, Nyeri, Isiolo and will head to Meru on Saturday skipping the vote-rich County.
