Uhuru Warns Raila on Eurobond

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday finally weighed in on the ongoing Eurobond saga, warning those perpetuating unsubstantiated allegations of consequences.

Speaking during the 52nd Jamhuri Day celebrations, President Kenyatta talked tough condemning those opposing his government in the fight against corruption.

“I will only say this. If you support my administration support it in a mature way. If you oppose it, oppose it a mature way. After all, it may be your administration one day,” said Kenyatta.

In an apparent reference to CORD leader Raila Odinga and the Opposition in general, Kenyatta urged anyone making claims to justify them or be held accountable.

“Yes, I agree that those entrusted with public positions must be held to account. If found guilty the maximum punishment must be meted out. But the sword of justice cuts both ways. If you make accusations and fail to prove them, you will also be held accountable,” he added.

The tough-talk by the President was seemingly directed to the Opposition, which has raised queries on the use of Sh250 Eurobond money, which was borrowed from the International market.

The former Prime Minister has been on the forefront demanding Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich to provide a breakdown of all projects funded by the loan.

However, he has adamantly refused to provide more information to back his claims, even after being summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
