President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advisor on education matters, Dr Kilemi Mwiria has joined Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap party after announcing his defection from Jubilee on Wednesday.
Addressing the press on Thursday, Dr Mwiria stated that he would vie for the Meru gubernatorial seat on a Maendelo Chap Chap ticket.
"I am coming to a party which supports President Kenyatta's re-election… a party that is not only friendly but also development conscious," Dr Mwiria said.
Dr Mwiria, a former Education assistant Minister, said that he opted out of Uhuru’s party after he expressed doubt that Jubilee would hold free and fair nominations in Meru County.
He disclosed that he did not have any problem with Kenyatta but the Jubilee team in Meru led by Senator Kiraitu Murungi, Members of Parliament (MPs) Mithika Linturi (Igembe South) and Florence Kajuju (Woman Representative).
“I have no problem with the Jubilee party led by Mr Kenyatta, but there is a problem with Jubilee in Meru,” Dr Mwiria stated.
Dr Mwiria was appointed a presidential adviser on education matters in 2014 after he presented a report on school financing.
