US Government Gives Kenya 6 Helicopters Worth Sh11 Billion

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Friday morning received six helicopters from the US government worth Sh11 Billion to help in the fight against terrorism.

US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec handed the equipment to Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo at the Laikipia Air Base, Nanyuki.

Receiving the Bell Huey helicopters, the CS thanked the US government for the continued cooperation adding that two more air crafts were on the way.

“In the complex operations undertaken by our forces especially in Somalia, the helicopters will perform multiple tasks that will include combat research, rescue operations and most importantly air assault capability, therefore, they will bolster all round performance,'' Omamo stated.

The Defence CS also announced that the US would train some of the soldiers on how to operate the helicopters.

The helicopters come barely a week after the Chinese Government donated machinery worth Sh455 Million to the KDF soldiers.

The equipment included 36 assorted vehicles and three containers of spare parts.
