US Will not Support any Presidential Candidate During the August 8 election - Godec Says

US President Donald Trump's administration, through it's ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec, has said that it will not support any presidential candidate during the August 8 election.

Speaking on Wednesday during a visit to Kariobangi South, Nairobi, Amb. Godec stated the US would only encourage voter participation but would not interfere with the upcoming polls in any way.

“Only Kenyans will make a decision on who will be their leader…We, however, do support and encourage voter participation,” Godec stated.

The diplomat encouraged more Kenyans to register as voters so that they can elect leaders who will change their lives through spearheading development.

“Voter apathy is not the answer. Express your choice who leads this country at the national level or local level. Make your voice heard, make your vote count and make a decision about where you want your country to go,” the US Ambassador emphasised.

The ambassador's sentiments come amid growing concerns that eligible voters are not turning out to register.

On Tuesday, the IEBC announced that only 2 Million people had registered for the last three weeks yet the target is 6 Million.
