VIDEO: Raila Team Tear-gassed Heavily

CORD leaders were on Monday teargassed when they tried to break into the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices located at Anniversary Towers.

Under the leadership of Opposition Chief Raila Odinga the members caused disruption in the Central Business District (CBD) forcing police to disperse them.

Odinga and other Opposition leaders scampered for safety when the officers launched teargas canisters at them and the huge crowd that had gathered at the IEBC headquarters.

In a video making rounds on social media, Siaya Senator James Orengo, Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro, ODM chairman John Mbadi among other leaders are seen trying to bring down the Anniversary Towers gates after police locked them out from accessing the premises.

The leaders were demanding the exit of IEBC Commissioners claiming they had zero confidence in the Commission.

Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome had earlier warned that the planned protest would not be allowed asking the organizers to seek alternative avenues to resolve their dispute.

“The protest will not be allowed and we will use all means possible to stop it. Why are they going there? They should instead seek alternative channels to air their grievances and not disrupt activities in town,” cautioned Koome.
