VIDEO: Rapist Returns Seeking Victim's Hand in Marriage

An orphaned girl from Voi in Taita-Taveta County is seeking protection from the government after a man who raped her returned seeking her hand in marriage.

The man, who had been imprisoned, was set free after spending three years behind bars for defiling the minor.

According to the girl (name withheld), the ex-convict has been trailing her since leaving prison seeking to have her as a wife, even though she just completed her primary education recently under her guardian's care.

The young girl claimed that her aunt (guardian) had been receiving money and favours from the man, as a token before handing her to him as a wife.

“Recently my guardian asked me to get married to him and said I should talk to him to build us a latrine,” she lamented in an interview on NTV.

However, the girl's guardian distanced herself from the accusations, stating that she could have done that before if that was her intention.

Instead, she alleged that the orphan had numerous secretive arrangements with the criminal and so should not drag her name into it.
