Court Faults Mother for Failing to Report Disabled Daughter's Repeated Rape

A Mombasa court has taken a disabled girl from her mother's custody after it emerged that the mother had failed to report repeated cases of the girl's defilement.

The girl who has both hearing and speaking disabilities has been defiled several times by two men.

The two suspects, Sammy Ndoro Athumani and Nzombo Bakarai Kadenge allegedly had a made a habit of beating up the girl while raping her.

According to The Standard, no arrests were made until last week when the teenager gathered enough courage to point out her molesters to the police.

In a shocking revelation, investigations revealed that while the rape suspects had taken advantage of the minor's disability, the girl's mother deliberately chose not to report the incidents to the police.

This prompted the court to place her under state custody.

The two were arraigned in court Monday, where they both denied charges, with one claiming that his family's and the girl's were in the middle of dowry negotiations as they were to get married.

The survivor however said that the claims were not true.

Investigations into the matter and the girl's mother involvement in her abuse continue.

The next court session for the case is set for 15th of May this year.
