Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko on Monday seemingly offered city residents a lesson on how they could pick their way through the heavy traffic that hits roads in the Capital.
In a video Sonko posted on Facebook, the Senator is captured riding on a motorbike, having abandoned his vehicle amid traffic snarl up along Haile Selassie Avenue.
The Senator captioned one of the videos, saying he rode through the Central Business District, despite recent attempts by the Nairobi County Government to ban motorbike activities in the city centre.
“Today Nairobi's traffic is very hectic but mimi nilijichanua boda boda till home. Ukiona utalala kwa jam jichanue,” (Today Nairobi's traffic is very hectic but I got clever and took a boda boda home. If you find that you may sleep in traffic, get clever.)
Sonko rides past a police vehicle, with one of the boda-boda operators trailing behind the Senator, greeting the officers who are also stuck in traffic.
The flamboyant Legislator is later seen alighting the bike upon reaching his destination and instead of paying in cash, he sends Sh5000 via Mpesa to the boda boda operators.
“Let us call a spade a spade and not a big spoon. Yani chapa imelost mpaka jana nilikuwa dry kabisa i had to borrow a soft loan from Mshwari to pay boda boda via Mpesa. I always say anyone can be broke and you should all know ni Christmas na Chapaa imelost sana Maisha imekuwa ngumu.. Mimi pia niko dry sana,” read one of his posts.
