Villagers Refuse to Bury Kin

Locals at Choke Village in Taita-Taveta County have vowed not to bury their services one of their own owing to the misery the deceased costd while he was alive.

Nahashon Mwazighe 55, was lynched by the villagers last Saturday after he allegedly raped and beheaded a nine-year-old girl.

The suspect had been spotted abducting the girl on her way to a local shop by a boy who reported the incident to the villagers only to find the man had murdered the girl.

A village elder told the Star that they were fed up with Mwazighe's action and would not be burying him.

“My villagers have not shown any interest in burying the man because of his heinous act,” Teri Mwale affirmed.

The elder also accused the deceased of attempting to rape several women in the village despite being thronged by multiple women in his life.

The scenario is rare as most African cultures encourage people to bury their close relatives or neighbours.

A similar incident happened in 2011, when a family in Kieni Nyeri County refused to bury their kin after the deceased reportedly killed three members of the family.
