Waiguru Calls for Uhuru's Help

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru now wants a public commission of inquiry set up to investigate the affidavit sworn against her by businesswoman Josephine Kabura.

Waiguru on Sunday said she had requested President Uhuru Kenyatta to set up the commission to look into Kabura's claims concerning the Sh791 million NYS scandal.

Waiguru stressed on the need for a public inquiry into the affidavit and determine if it is true.

"The affidavit with its falsehoods and unsubstantiated allegations have been treated as truth, fact and evidence," she said in a statement Sunday.

The statement further read: “However, due to the excessive interest and attention on this matter from Kenyans, I have requested His Excellency the president to set up a Commission of Inquiry, under the provisions of the Commission of Inquiry Act into the grave allegations made in the Josephine Kabura affidavit so that the truth can come out in full public limelight".

Waiguru questioned Kabura's decision to name other purported accomplices in the scam rather than run down her accusers.

"A narrative continues to evolve that assumes the truth of an affidavit by a person already charged with several crimes, ignoring the fact that the natural inclination of an accused person is to malign their accusers, it is never to name their accomplices," she said.

Josephine Kabura, a main suspect in the NYS scam swore the damning affidavit shortly after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission had cleared Waiguru of any involvement in the theft at NYS.

EACC would later backtrack their decision to clear Waiguru's name and claim to have done so wrongfully.

In papers filed in court  Ms Kabura placed Waiguru at the centre of the scam, revealing that Waiguru introduced her to doing business with NYS and even helped her register the companies used in the dubious dealings.

She further mentioned that Waiguru was well aware of the controversial payments made and even ordered Sh80 Million be paid to anti-graft detectives in a cover up scheme.

Waiguru now wants Kenyans to know the truth and see an end to this unfortunate drama.
