What Detectives Did Inside Waiguru's Mansion Revealed

Detectives from the Anti-Corruption department armed with a court order and a search warrant, Tuesday morning raided the home of former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, embarking on an hours-long operation inside the lavish mansion at Kitsuru estate in Nairobi.

The officers combed the house for any documents that could aid in the ongoing probe regarding the Sh791 Million NYS scandal, with the search even extending to her personal handbags.

According to Waiguru's lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi, while inside the house, the detectives questioned about the former CS's wealth portfolio including the house she was living in.

Nassir divulged that Waiguru explained that the house she lived in cost her Sh100 Million and that she was still servicing the mortgage.

The Senior Counsel faulted the officers noting that they were engaging in a “blind search”, adding that they even looked at the exercise books of Waiguru’s children and sought to know where they studied.

“They went to the kitchen, bedrooms, toilets, bathrooms, servant quarters and even searched her handbag. They were on a blind search and we don’t know exactly what they wanted,” he said.

While leaving at 2pm, the investigators carted away documents including; bank statements, house ownership records, some Cabinet memos and speeches she had delivered before.

Similar operations were also conducted at the homes of former NYS Director Nelson Githinji and former Planning Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti, who were both implicated in the NYS scandal and have since been arraigned in court.
