Why Ex-KDF Soldiers Had Been Jailed For Life

Former KDF soldiers who had been jailed for life have asserted that the charges filed against them were prompted by military politics.

The men have revealed that the reasons for their arrests are far beyond what the public have been led to believe.

The 25 men who were arrested in February last year, were accused of desertion.

The men disclosed that after being named as outlawed officers by Security agencies - for terror threats in the coastal region - they feared for their lives and hence moved to Mtongwe Air force base to do clearance.

Their move to Mtongwe Airbase, later emerged to be a planned scheme to arrest them.

The ex-soldiers have accused KDF of using coached witnesses to jail them unlawfully.

They blamed the KDF for torturing them mentally and physically while in Mtongwe.

The men have retaliated claims of desertion of duty and have stated that the then Deputy Navy Commander, Brigadier Ngewa Mukala, at the Navy’s Manda Base in Lamu, asked soldiers who wanted to resign to write to him and they would be officially discharged.

The Mombasa High court acquitted the soldiers as there was no sufficient evidence to implicate them.
