The Consolata Mathari Mission Hospital in Nyeri county has stated that it will not be able to offer out-patient services through the NHIF outpatient scheme.
The hospital said that the amount offered by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) was too little to sustain operations at the hospital.
According to the hospital's CEO Bernard Mureithi, operating the hospital with the amount NHIF offered had proven to be a challenge. Mureithi pleaded with the health insurer to review the funds so that the hospital can be able to meet its day-to-day expenditures and for quality service delivery.
The mission hospital has so far registered 5119 beneficiaries under the NHIF outpatient scheme.
NHIF pays an annual amount of Sh1,200 per patient to hospitals which equates to Sh100 per month. The government's health insurer deducts members under the voluntary category Sh500 per month which translates to Sh6000 per annum, while those in formal employment contribute according to their income.
The outpatient scheme last month also faced rejection from selected private hospitals at the Coast, which asked the government to raise the outpatient scheme funding from Sh1,200 to Sh6,000 every year.
