Kenyans whose land was acquired for the construction of the Riruta–Ngong Meter Gauge Railway Commuter Line can soon lay their compensation claims.

This is after the National Land Commission Chairman, Gershom Otachi, published dates and times where they can lay these claims in a notice on the June 5 issue of the Kenya Gazette.

"In pursuance of section 112 of the Land Act, 2012, Part VIII and further to Gazette Notice No. 16243 of 2024, the National Land Commission on behalf of the Kenya Railways (KR) gives notice that an inquiry to hear claims to compensation for the interested Parties in land required for construction of the Riruta–Ngong Meter Gauge Railway Commuter Line land acquisition in Kajiado County shall be held on the dates and places as shown below," part of the notice read.

The compiled list consists of 49 pieces of land acquired around Ngong and Nairobi and their listed owners, alongside when they can lay their claims.

The first selection of landowners will have their claims heard at the Karen Chief’s Office on July 30 from 10:00am and consists of 15 parcels of land.

Among them are the Kenya Forest Service for a section of Ngong Forest land and the Karen Community Church Registered Trustees. Others are two companies, one individual owner, and 10 whose owners are yet to be determined.

16 other landowners will have their claims heard at the Ebulbul Chief’s Office on July 31 from 10:00am. In this category, all landowners except four have been identified.

The last 18 sections of landowners will also have their claims heard at the Ebulbul Chief’s Office on August 1, starting at 10:00am.

The notice also included the items they should bring with them, including a written claim to compensation, a copy of an identity card (ID), a Personal Identification Number (PIN), land ownership documents and bank account details for both individuals and companies.

"Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation, a copy of identity card (ID), Personal Identification Number (PIN), land ownership documents and bank account details," part of the notice read.

"For interested companies, deliver copies of the certificate of incorporation, CR12, the company’s KRA PIN, copies of identity cards (ID) and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) for the Directors. The Commission Offices are in Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi and at the Commission’s County Coordinator’s Office in Kajiado County."

In the same notice, the commission gazetted the deletion of three parcels of land and the addition of seven more, stating that the plans for the affected land may be inspected during office hours at the Office of the National Land Commission, Ardhi House in Nairobi and at the National Land Commission’s County Co-ordinator’s Office in Kajiado County.
