The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged residents to brace for more rain and also strong winds in the next five days.
In its weekly forecast, the department said that some counties, including Kisumu, Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Meru, and Isiolo, will experience rains and showers accompanied by thunderstorms between Tuesday, December 16, and Saturday, December 20.
The weatherman noted that during this period, Turkana and Marsabit counties will also experience strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s).
Residents in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties can expect cloudy skies with light rain interspersed with sunny intervals over the next five days in the morning. However, showers are expected to occur in these counties during the afternoon and evening.
Showers accompanied by thunderstorms are likely to be experienced in these areas on Tuesday afternoon, according to the weatherman. The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 29°C, with a minimum of 5°C.
Similar conditions are expected in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland areas of Tana River County, although sunshine may break through by Tuesday afternoon.
It will, however, be a little bit hotter than the aforementioned regions, with the maximum temperatures in these areas expected to be 34°C, while the minimum will be 13°C.
Showers are expected to hit Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, during the forecasted period.
These counties are expected to record maximum temperatures of 34°C and minimum temperatures of 23°C.
Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties are set to experience daylong rains and showers, as well as at night, in the next five days.
During this period, the maximum temperatures in these counties are expected to reach 32°C, while the minimum will be 08°C.
Showers are expected during the day and night in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties can expect in the next five days, according to the weatherman.
The maximum temperature in these regions will be 37°C, while the minimums are set to be 16°C.
According to the weatherman, Turkana and Samburu counties are set to experience sunny conditions for most of the day and cloudy conditions during the night for most of the week. The forecast predicts maximum temperatures of 37°C and minimum temperatures of 16°C in these counties.
