Why MPs Might Miss Christmas Break

Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has said that parliament is ready to forefeit their December holiday so as to vet the commissioners nominated to head the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The legislators who have 21-days to make their submission on the President's nomination, are supposed to take a Christmas break on 15th December, but according to Kega, the lawmakers were willing to stay put until they complete the work.

President Kenyatta nominated Philip Kinusu to head the EACC while Dabar Abdi Maalim, Paul Mwaniki Gachoka, Sophia Lepuchirit and Rose Mghoi Mtambo Macharia were selected to be commissioners.

Kinusu's nomination followed the resignation of Mumo Matemu, former EACC chairman, who resigned on May 12th 2015.

Parliament is expected to approve or disapprove the nominated persons before they take office.
