Why NASA Team Picked Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka for Presidential Ticket

Fresh details show that voter registration figures, past voting patterns and performance of the co-principals were the key factors considered in recommending the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential flag bearer.

The statistics from the last voter registration showed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was best placed to get 2.7 Million votes from Luo-Nyanza and Kisii combined. The figure would be a major boost considering President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2.9 Million votes from Central Kenya.

NASA Co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka was projected to possibly garner most of the 1.5 Million votes in Ukambani, however, he would fail to surpass the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader in gathering votes from the other parts of the country.

An analysis of voter patterns in Nyanza, Western and NASA's strongholds dispelled previous claims that there was a poor turn-out of voters who supported Odinga in 2013.

The NASA Technical Committee's findings showed that 92% of voters would still turn out to vote for the ODM party leader as they did in 2013 which was far better than the ratings for Co-Principals Moses Wetangula (Ford-Kenya), Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress) and Kalonzo who all rated between 40% and 50%.

The figures were presented to the NASA Coordinating Committee by the Technical Committee for analysis and based on these findings, ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka were recommended as the most suitable candidates for the presidency having received backing from a majority of the voters in their Nyanza and Ukambani home turfs.

NASA Co-Principals were in Diani over the weekend for what they called a planning meeting to discuss scenarios and recommendations on how to arrive at a line-up for the August 8 poll.

Details on this meeting and the announcement of the NASA Presidential flag bearer are expected in the coming week.
