Why You Should Avoid Lang'ata and Uhuru Highway on Tuesday

A protest march by University of Nairobi students will be staged on Tuesday starting from the main campus, along Uhuru Highway then to Lang'ata road.

The students will be protesting brutality meted out on two of their colleagues who were reportedly roughed up and battered by bouncers at a night club in Lang'ata over the weekend.

The two are said to have been seriously injured after being beaten by security personnel at 1824 whiskey club.

According to a letter signed by the UoN Students' Leader Babu Owino, one student was admitted at St Mary's Hospital Lang'ata with severe injuries.

Owino says that the incident happened after a petty disagreement that would have been solved peacefully.

The letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police seeks protection from the law enforcers during a the planned peaceful demonstration.

Protests by university students have often turned out to be chaotic with learners engaging police in running battles.

Our attempts to reach Babu Owino to confirm the set agenda proved futile as calls and text message went unanswered.
