Why You Will No Longer Advertise Witch Doctor Services In Mombasa

An operation to pull down all posters advertising witch doctor services in the coastal region has been launched.

Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, County Commissioner Nelson Marwa said that the posters should be removed since they depicted the county badly and had a negative effect on tourism.

Marwa said that the notices were deceptive to residents and those found practicing witchcraft would be arrested.

“All the posters advertising witch doctors should be removed immediately and all those who are in the business be arrested. The posters are an eyesore and not good for tourism as well as for children,” said the County Commissioner.

On Wednesday, county officials began the process of pulling down the posters in Kongowea, Leisure, Mshomoroni and other parts of Kisauni.

Senior Superintendent James Kinara said that he was working under orders from the County Director of Inspectorate to rid the county of witch doctors adding that they were not allowed to place their notices all over the streets unless they paid taxes.

“I got an order from the inspectorate to pull down these posters advertising witch doctors’ services. The posters are not supposed to be put all over since they are making the county dirty and in fact, the said medicine men are supposed to pay taxes,” said Kinara.

Some residents of Mombasa however, do not support this move by the county government claiming that the traditional healers had solutions to various problems and that the posters should not be removed.
