Wiper MP John Munuve Defects For fear of Facing Kalonzo's Son

Wiper Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has lost a key member of his Party who is uncomfortable with the possibility of having to face off with the former Vice President's son during Wiper's nominations.

John Munuve, who is also the MP in Musyoka’s rural home, declined numerous requests from the party leadership to return to the Wiper Party and insisted that he would work with the Jubilee party.

On Saturday, Munuve stated categorically that he would not be returning to Wiper – the party that sponsored him to Parliament.

"There’s no way I’m returning to Wiper. Over my dead body,” Munuve stated during a function in his constituency.

He added that he would be denied the Wiper ticket if he sought re-election on the party ticket, claiming that Musyoka had reserved the ticket for one of his sons who is expected to launch a political career in 2017.

“Kalonzo Musyoka, the Wiper leader, has already fronted his son to run for my seat. Is he that daft to deny his son the ticket and give it to me if I won the nomination?” Munuve wondered rhetorically.

The legislator was responding to calls from Gabriel Kathanzu, a local politician, who had warned him that he would lose his seat if he stayed out of Wiper.

“Mheshimiwa, you are in a Wiper zone and voters are more likely to reelect you in Wiper," Kathanzu had claimed.

Munuve is among a group of Ukambani politicians who have fallen out with Musyoka who is perceived to be the region's political kingpin.

Area leaders have, however, sought to allay any fears that the rebels may disrupt the CORD co-principal's dominance in the region.
