PHOTOS: Wives of Detained MPs Flock Police Station

The wives of CORD leaders, who were Wednesday locked up in police cells, flocked Pangani Police Station where they complained of being denied access to see their husbands.

Led by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed's wife, the family members complained that the leaders had been holed up in the cells without being allowed to interact with anyone on the outside.

Addressing the media at the station, Mohamed's wife, Faizah Jammah, claimed that she had camped at Pangani seeking to give food to his husband but was held back.

“I have been here since yesterday when I came to give him a glass of water and dates but I was told they have dates in the cells,” Ms Mohamed said.

On her part, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama's wife, Jemimah Muthama, claimed that on the day when his husband was accused of uttering inciteful statement, they were together in Taita Taveta.

The relatives were joined by other legislators led by ODM chairman John Mbadi and Kitui Senator David Musila who camped at the Station demanding to see Mr Mohamed, Muthama and Timothy Bosire.

"We are disgusted. We are disappointed that we don't have access to our colleagues," said Musila.

The three lawmakers spent Tuesday night in the cells after they were remanded for four days pending investigations into remarks they made that were deemed inflammatory.

Other leaders present during the visit included former Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu.

Anti-riot police officers were deployed to manage a crowd that was milling around the police station demanding to see the leaders.

Reports further indicated that the three CORD lawmakers were detained in the same cell with Jubilee MPs Moses Kuria, Kimani Ngunjiri and Ferdinand Waititu who were faced with the same charges.

Female MPs Aisha Jumwa and Florence Mutua, who were in court alongside their male counterparts, were taken to Muthaiga Police Station.
