Pregnancy blues have been known to adversely affect the temperament of some ladies, but as a Nairobi court heard, they apparently are to blame for a mother torturing her children.
A 27 year old woman, arrested for physically abusing her three year old son blamed her actions on post- natal depression.
She is accused of having burnt and beaten up the toddler on 18th of April this year at her home in Embakasi, Nairobi.
Neighbors, responding to the cries of the child found him with serious burns, bite injuries and scratch marks.
The child was taken to hospital for treatment and the mother arrested.
When arraigned in court, Momanyi said "I am not to blame for all these. Every time I am pregnant, I become hostile and my temper rises. That’s why I’ve been mistreating the boy”, The Standard reports.
The suspect was released on a cash bail of Ksh.5,000 and her case hearing set for October 2, 2015.
