A 27-year-old woman is nursing severe burn wounds at Nairobi Women's Hospital, Nakuru branch, after she was allegedly set ablaze by her husband.
Dorcas Awinja claimed she was attacked by her husband after she read a love message from another woman on his phone.
Awinja who suffered 63 percent burns narrated that she confronted her husband over the message and thats when a fight between them erupted.
“My husband poured paraffin on my nylon dress and lit fire on me, leaving me with all these injuries,” she was quoted by the Standard.
According to a report by Citizen TV, Awinja had also accused her husband of having an affair with her brother's wife.
The couple, which lives in Ipali village Vihiga County, is reported to have been married for 12 years and had two children before the incident happened.
Awinja said that immediately she was set on fire, her husband ran away as she screamt for help.
Neighbours who rushed to the couple's compound took her to Coptic Hospital in Maseno, after which she was referred to the Nairobi Women's Hospital in Nakuru.
Ms Awinja added that her husband went into hiding and called her relatives saying that she had burnt herself.
Area police boss Benson Kilonzo said they were investigating the assault and had launched a man hunt on the suspect.
